NymVPN applies a 2 TB monthly fair-use limit per account, set out in our Terms of Use. There is no paid top-up tier. If you've reached the limit and need a reset before your next monthly cycle, you can ask Nym Support. Most reasonable requests are processed within about 6 hours (longer over weekends). Resets are decided case-by-case and aren't a guaranteed monthly entitlement.
Why is there a 2 TB monthly limit?
The 2 TB monthly fair-use cap is part of NymVPN's Terms of Use. It exists so the network can deliver a reliable level of service to everyone using it. NymVPN's privacy design uses a cryptographic "ticket" model, which means a single, modest data allowance can appear to be spent quickly under certain usage patterns. How do I request a bandwidth reset?
- Submit a request at support.nym.com/requests/new.
- Select the Account form, then choose Bandwidth reset as the issue type.
- Include your NymVPN account ID and a brief note on what you've been using NymVPN for.
Most requests are reviewed within about 6 hours. Requests submitted over a weekend may take longer.
Is there a paid top-up option?
Not at this time. NymVPN doesn't offer a way to purchase additional data on top of the 2 TB monthly allowance. Bandwidth resets are handled case-by-case through support.
What if I'm burning through my allowance with normal use?
The 2 TB allowance is generous for typical browsing, streaming, and download patterns, but it can appear to deplete faster than expected if you frequently rotate gateways or run NymVPN across many devices. For details on how the ticket model affects perceived usage, see Why do I get a "monthly data limit reached" error?
Tips to make the allowance go further:
- Stick with a single device and connection when possible.
- Reconnect less often. Each fresh gateway session uses a new ticket from your pool.
- Use split tunneling to exclude bandwidth-heavy apps that don't need VPN privacy.

When does my monthly limit reset on its own?
Your allowance resets at the start of each monthly billing cycle, on the same day each month as your original subscription purchase.
Does the limit apply to both Fast and Anonymous modes?
Yes. The 2 TB allowance is shared across both modes and all your devices on the same account.
Will I be charged extra if I exceed the limit?
No. There are no overage charges. When the allowance is exhausted, the connection stops working until your cycle resets or support resets the allowance.
Will my reset request always be approved?
Most reasonable requests are approved. Resets are case-by-case. They're not a monthly entitlement, but they're a practical safety valve when usage is in good faith.
