On Windows, NymVPN consists of two parts:
- The app (client) – the visual interface for accessing NymVPN;
- The daemon – responsible for network operations and connectivity.
1. Check if your Windows app is connected to the daemon
If you see a red dot in the top left of the NymVPN app or a “daemon not connected” message, it means the app and daemon are not connected, preventing network access.
2. Try uninstalling the Windows app
The easiest way to resolve this issue is to fully uninstall and reinstall the NymVPN app. Before doing so, ensure you have your 24-word access code/passphrase to reconnect your device.
Follow our Windows uninstall guide on How to uninstall NymVPN on Windows?
3. Run the daemon manually
You can manually start the NymVPN daemon and app by following these steps:
- Open C:\Program Files\NymVPN
- Select "NymVPN" to launch the NymVPN app
- Right-click nym-vpnd, select "Run as administrator", and confirm by selecting "Yes".
This should reconnect the app and daemon, as indicated by the green dot in the top-left corner of the NymVPN app.
