Yes. NymVPN on Android has a kill switch that is always enabled from the moment you open the app, and it supports Android's built-in Always-on VPN feature so your protection starts automatically with your device and survives reboots. For the strictest setup, Android's "Block connections without VPN" option stops all network traffic whenever the VPN is not connected.
The three layers explained
Kill switch
Active automatically whenever you use the app, with nothing to configure. If your VPN connection drops unexpectedly, the kill switch prevents your traffic from leaking onto the open network while the app reconnects.
Always-on VPN
An Android system feature that starts NymVPN automatically, including after a reboot, so you do not have to remember to connect. Enable it once and your device comes up protected.
Block connections without VPN
An optional Android setting that goes one step further: if the VPN is not connected for any reason, no traffic leaves your device at all. Recommended if you never want a single packet sent outside the tunnel.
How to enable Always-on VPN
- Open the NymVPN app on Android.
- Go to Settings and open the Kill switch option.
- The app will prompt you to open Android's VPN settings.
- Enable Always-on VPN for NymVPN.
- Optionally, enable Block connections without VPN on the same screen.

Does the kill switch work in both Fast and Anonymous mode?
Yes. The kill switch operates at the device level, regardless of which mode you connect with. See What's the difference between NymVPN Fast & Anonymous mode?
Will Always-on VPN drain my battery?
The impact is small. WireGuard, which powers Fast mode, is one of the most battery-efficient VPN protocols available. See What is WireGuard?
I enabled Block connections without VPN and now some apps fail when reconnecting. Is that normal?
Yes, that is the setting doing its job: while the VPN is down or reconnecting, all traffic is blocked. Apps resume as soon as the tunnel is back up. If you find it too strict for your use, disable that option and keep Always-on VPN.
