What happens when your subscription expires depends on how you paid and whether you have auto-renew enabled. Web subscriptions (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay on nym.com) renew automatically by default. Cryptocurrency and cash subscriptions don't auto-renew; you start a new term manually. Your 24-word access code and account stay with you either way, so you never lose them.
Web subscriptions (card / Apple Pay / Google Pay)
By default, web subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period. Your card is charged for the next term (monthly, yearly, or biannually) and your access continues without interruption. We send a reminder email before the renewal so you can review or cancel if you want to.
To turn off auto-renewal, cancel your subscription at nym.com/account/login under Account > Manage plan. Cancellation stops renewal at the end of your current term; your access stays active until then. See How do I cancel my NymVPN subscription?
In-app subscriptions (App Store / Google Play)
Subscriptions purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play auto-renew under Apple's and Google's standard terms. Manage renewal directly in:
- iOS: Settings > your name > Subscriptions > NymVPN
- Android: Play Store > profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > NymVPN
Cryptocurrency and cash subscriptions
Crypto and cash subscriptions do not auto-renew. When the term ends, your access pauses. To continue, start a new subscription term by going through checkout again with the same NymVPN account. This is by design: there's no card on file to charge, and we don't ask you for one. Renewal stays in your hands.
You can also make multiple purchases from the same account and those subscriptions will stack, letting you stay subscribed for a longer period.
What happens when access actually pauses
- The NymVPN app stops connecting and shows that no active subscription is on the account.
- Your 24-word access code remains valid. You can sign in to nym.com/account/login and start a new subscription term whenever you're ready.
- Any remaining bandwidth allowance is reset when a new term begins.
If your free trial is about to end
The 1-year and 2-year plans include a 7-day free trial. If you cancel within the trial, your access stays active until the trial period ends and you're not charged. If you do nothing, the plan converts to paid at the end of the 7 days.

Related questions
Can I resubscribe with the same account after my plan ends?
Yes. Sign in at nym.com/account/login with your 24-word access code and go through checkout again. The same account picks up where it left off. If you choose, you can also purchase multiple plans at the same time to stay subscribed for longer
Will my 24-word access code change?
No. The access code is permanent. The same code works across subscriptions, renewals, and any future plan changes unless you choose to create a new account.
