What happens when your subscription expires comes down to how you paid. Web subscriptions (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay on nym.com) auto-renew by default. Crypto and cash subscriptions don't, so you start a new term yourself. Either way, your 24-word access code and account stay with you.
Web subscriptions (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay)
By default these auto-renew at the end of each billing period, charging your card for the next term (monthly, every 6 months, or yearly) so your access never breaks. We email a reminder first. To stop auto-renewal, cancel at nym.com/account/login under Account > Manage plan: renewal stops at the end of the current term, and your access runs until then. See How do I cancel my NymVPN subscription?
In-app subscriptions (App Store, Google Play)
These auto-renew under Apple's and Google's terms. Manage renewal in iOS: Settings > your name > Subscriptions > NymVPN, or Android: Play Store > profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > NymVPN.
Crypto and cash subscriptions
These don't auto-renew, by design: there's no card on file, and we won't ask for one. When the term ends your access pauses; to continue, go through checkout again with the same account. You can also stack multiple purchases on one account to stay subscribed longer.
When access pauses
The app stops connecting and shows no active subscription. Your 24-word access code stays valid, so you can sign in at nym.com/account/login and start a new term anytime, and your bandwidth allowance resets when the new term begins.
If your free trial is about to end
The 6-month and 1-year plans include a 7-day free trial when you pay by card. Cancel within the trial and you keep access to the end of it with no charge; do nothing and it converts to paid after 7 days. For trial-to-paid refunds (within 30 days of the paid period), see How do I get a refund for my NymVPN subscription?
Related questions
Can I resubscribe with the same account after my plan ends?
Yes. Sign in at nym.com/account/login with your access code and go through checkout again; the account picks up where it left off. You can also buy multiple plans at once to stay subscribed longer.
Will my 24-word access code change?
No. It's permanent, and the same code works across subscriptions, renewals, and plan changes unless you create a new account.
