On some Windows devices, NymVPN may fail to connect after the device is restarted or during first-time setup. This is often caused by the system daemon not starting automatically. The steps below will help you restore connectivity.
Restart the NymVPN Service
Open the Start Menu.
Type
services.mscand select the Services system console (it should appear as the top search result). In the Services Console, find NymVPN Service.
Right-click on it and select Restart.
NymVPN should now be able to connect successfully.
Reinstall the Latest Version of NymVPN
If restarting the service doesn’t fix the issue, reinstalling NymVPN usually helps.
Press Windows + I to open Settings.
Type Add or remove programs in the search bar.
Search for NymVPN → click Uninstall.
Check that the folder
C:\Program Files\NymVPNis removed. If not, delete it manually.Restart your PC (this ensures any remaining stale service registry keys are wiped, especially if you tried the in-app updater before).
Download the latest version of NymVPN from this page.
-
Launch the installer to complete installation.
Check Firewall Settings
Windows Firewall (or a third-party firewall) may block NymVPN from making connections. To verify and allow access:
Open the Start Menu, type Windows Security, and select it.
In the Windows Security app, go to Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall.
-
In the list, look for NymVPN.
If it’s missing, click Change settings → Allow another app → browse to
C:\Program Files\NymVPNand select the NymVPN executable.Make sure both Private and Public boxes are checked.
If you’re using a third-party firewall, ensure NymVPN is whitelisted there as well.
Once allowed through the firewall, NymVPN should be able to establish connections without issues.
After following these steps, NymVPN should connect normally on your Windows device. We also recommend looking into the current known issues list on this page.
