Your NymVPN account is protected by a 24-word access code, the only key to it. By design, Nym can't see, store, or recover it. What you can do if you've lost it depends on whether you're still signed in somewhere and whether you can prove your payment.
Option 1: reveal it on nym.com (if you're still signed in)
- Go to nym.com/account/login.
- Open Passphrase in the left menu.
- Under 24-word access code, click Reveal (the eye icon).
- Store it safely: a password manager, an encrypted note, or a printed backup somewhere secure.
Only reveal it in a private place on a trusted device.
Option 2: find your saved backup
If you saved the words at signup, recover them from your password manager, a printed backup, or an encrypted file you stored.
Option 3: transfer your subscription to a new account
If the code is gone for good, Nym can't recover it, but we can move your subscription to a new account you create, as long as you can prove you paid:
- Create a new account at nym.com/account/login and save the new 24-word code immediately.
- Contact Nym Support at support.nym.com/requests/new using the Account form, subject "Lost 24-word access code".
- Include payment proof (see below) and the new account ID.
What counts as payment proof?
- Card (Stripe): last 4 digits plus the date and approximate time; the Stripe receipt email helps.
- Apple Pay / Google Pay: the order ID from your receipt.
- Cryptocurrency: the transaction hash and sending wallet address.
- Cash: the payment note you mailed, plus the approximate date it arrived. Without a note or a way to identify the transfer, cash recovery isn't possible.
Can I change my access code?
Not in-product. If you suspect yours is exposed, use the same transfer flow: create a new account, contact support with proof of the old subscription, and we'll move your plan.
Store your code safely
- Use a password manager that supports secure notes.
- Keep at least two backups in separate secure places.
- Avoid plain text files, screenshots, or unsecured cloud notes.
- Never share it, and watch for phishing.
