Your NymVPN account is protected by a 24-word access code. It is the only key to your account. By design, Nym cannot see, store, or recover it. If you've lost it, the options below depend on whether you're still signed in somewhere and whether you can prove the payment that bought your subscription.
Option 1: reveal it on nym.com (if you're still signed in)
If you're still signed into your account in a browser:
- Go to nym.com/account/login.
- In the left menu, open Passphrase.
- Under 24-word access code, choose Reveal (the eye icon) to display your 24 words.
- Store the code safely (a password manager, an encrypted note, or a printed backup in a secure location).
Tip: only reveal your code in a private place on a trusted device.
Option 2: find your saved backup
If you're not signed in but you saved the 24 words when you created the account, recover it from wherever you stored it:
- A password manager secure note
- A printed or handwritten backup
- An encrypted file you downloaded and stored
Option 3: transfer your subscription to a new account
If you no longer have your 24-word access code anywhere, Nym cannot recover it for you. By design, Nym never stores it. However, if you can prove you paid for the subscription, our team can transfer your subscription to a new account that you create.
Here's how to do it:
- Create a new NymVPN account at nym.com/account/login. You'll be given a new 24-word access code. Save it immediately using a password manager or another secure backup.
- Contact Nym Support at support.nym.com/requests/new using the Account form, with subject "Lost 24-word access code".
- Include your payment proof for the original subscription. The exact proof depends on the payment method (see below).
- Include the new account ID you've just created. We'll transfer the subscription from your old account to the new one.
What counts as payment proof?
- Card (Stripe): the last 4 digits of the card used, plus the date and approximate time of the payment. Including the Stripe receipt email is helpful.
- Apple Pay / Google Pay: the order ID from your App Store or Google Play receipt.
- Cryptocurrency: the transaction hash and the sending wallet address.
- Cash: the payment note you included with your mailed payment, plus the approximate date Nym would have received it.
If you paid in cash without a payment note and don't have a way to identify the original transfer, recovery is not possible.
Can I rotate or change my access code?
Not as an in-product feature. If you want a new access code (for example, you suspect the existing one was exposed), the same transfer flow above applies: create a new account, contact support with proof of the old subscription, and we'll move your plan to the new account.
How to store your access code safely
- Use a password manager that supports secure notes.
- Keep at least two backups in separate secure locations.
- Avoid unencrypted storage (plain text files, screenshots, unsecured cloud notes).
- Never share it with anyone, including Nym Support. Watch out for phishing.

Will I lose remaining subscription days during the transfer?
No. When we transfer your subscription, the remaining time on your plan moves with it.
How long does the transfer take?
We aim to process transfer requests within one business day of receiving valid payment proof.
Can I keep using NymVPN on my current device while I wait?
If you're still signed in on a device, your VPN connection continues to work normally until you sign out. Avoid signing out until the transfer is complete.
