Can I delete my NymVPN account?
There is no way to delete your account once it’s created. But don’t worry, you don’t really need to! Your personal information can never be connected with your anonymous NymVPN account ID.
When you register, your NymVPN account ID – which acts as a public key – is created on the Nyx blockchain. Due to the immutable nature of blockchain technology, your NymVPN account ID is permanently recorded.
Deleting your NymVPN access
While your anonymous NymVPN account ID cannot be deleted, you can remove your access by completing the following steps:
- Unlink your device from NymVPN in the app settings
- Delete the NymVPN app from your device
- Remove your NymVPN credentials or access code from your device (if stored separately)
Once these steps are completed, your access to NymVPN will be fully revoked.
Am I at risk if I can’t delete my account?
Not at all. We do not store any personally identifiable information in relation to your NymVPN account. Even if a database breach were to occur, attackers would not find usable information to target specific users.
Here’s what we do store in our database for operational purposes:
- Anonymous NymVPN account ID: it starts with n1 and allows you to connect through multiple device
- Device ID(s): are anonymized with no OS information, MAC address, IP address, or any traceable data, only a randomly generated moniker for each device connected with your accountID
Payment information
- Date and time of transaction
- Subscription details (purchases and refunds)
- Payment processor and currency used (e.g., Stripe, BTCPay, USD, CHF, BTC).
Can I request the deletion of my payment information?
In most cases we are unable to delete payment information due to legal obligations under Swiss law. Please read our Privacy Policy for NymVPN for more information.
Additionally, payment data may be stored by third parties such as your bank, credit card issuer, or third-party blockchains in the case of crypto transactions. In these cases, your data is beyond Nym’s control, so pay privately if possible!
Best practices to protect your financial privacy
Using privacy-focused cryptocurrency is the recommended method for safeguarding your payment history. Cryptos such as Monero, ZCash Shielded Addresses, and others encrypt sensitive details and metadata, ensuring transaction history remains private on the blockchain. Alternatively, you can also purchase NymVPN using cash, the most private payment technology ever created.
Once subscriptions are available, your NymVPN subscription generates a credential that is cryptographically unlinkable, meaning it cannot be traced back to you or your payment information.
