Some Linux users have reported two specific issues
1. Slower speeds in certain setups
2. A blank screen when launching the AppImage version of the NymVPN client.
Below are the current known causes and suggested workarounds.
Slower Speeds on Linux (VMs and Mobile Tethering)
Slower speeds have been observed when using NymVPN on:
- Linux running inside a virtual machine
- Linux devices connected through mobile tethering
While slower speeds have been reported in these environments, current findings suggest they are related to the system or connection type — not to the VPN itself.
If you’re seeing similar symptoms, try switching to a direct (non-tethered) internet connection or running Linux on hardware rather than inside a VM. These changes have helped improve performance in similar environments.
Blank Screen in AppImage Version (Tauri Upstream Issue)
Some users launching the AppImage version of the NymVPN client may encounter a blank window. If the following message appears in the app logs:
Could not create default EGL display: EGL_BAD_PARAMETER. Aborting...
This is caused by an upstream graphics compatibility issue related to how the AppImage was generated using Tauri.
Current Status:
- There is no fix available at this time
- This issue is tracked on GitHub:Issue #2985 – Blank screen with Tauri AppImage
Workaround:
To avoid this error, try using a different installation method that does not rely on AppImage not affected by the same EGL error:
- Deb/AUR packages (if available for your distro)
- Flatpak package
